3.9-magnitude earthquake shakes Los Angeles during 2025 Oscars night
The 2025 Oscars night was filled with excitement and surprises, but it wasn't just the awards that took people by surprise. As Hollywood's elite gathered for the star-studded event, a 3.9-magnitude earthquake rattled the North Hollywood area at around 10:13 p.m. PT, according to the USGS.

While the main event took place at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, the tremor was felt throughout Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley. The earthquake struck just hours after the Oscars concluded, but many stars were still attending afterparties, making for a memorable night all around.
At the 33rd Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards viewing party, performer Chappell Roan was on stage when the earthquake hit. However, those in attendance seemed unaware of the tremor. On the red carpet at the Governors Ball, another insider reported that people at the exclusive post-Oscars party could feel the shaking.
Despite the unexpected shake-up, there were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries, according to KABC.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood, saw Anora dominate the evening, securing five awards, including Best Picture. Adrien Brody took home Best Actor for his role in The Brutalist, Mikey Madison was named Best Actress for Anora, Kieran Culkin won Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, and Zoe Saldaña earned Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Emilia Pérez.
Though the quake briefly stole the spotlight, the 2025 Oscars will certainly be remembered for the unforgettable wins and the surprising seismic event that occurred during Hollywood's biggest night.
