Mikey Madison's surprise 2025 Oscars win: Reflecting on her future and down-to-earth plans after historic 'Best Actress' award

Mikey Madison, the breakout star of Anora, is uncertain about what lies ahead after her unexpected victory at the 2025 Academy Awards. However, she is clear about one thing she plans to do on her big night — and it’s not exactly glamorous.

Madison, who bested favorite Demi Moore for the Best Actress award on Sunday, shared with reporters in the Oscars press room that she has yet to fully grasp the significance of her win and its potential impact on her career.

“I’ve been reflecting a lot on both the future and the past,” said Madison when asked how she hopes the Oscar will shape her career. “I’m really trying to stay present during all of this, so I honestly don’t know what’s next. What I do know is that I want to keep making films, working with inspiring people, and telling meaningful stories.”

Anora, the film that earned Madison the award, also took home five Oscars, including Best Picture. The film follows Ani (Madison), a young sex worker who suddenly marries the son of a powerful Russian businessman. During her acceptance speech, Madison took a moment to recognize the sex worker community, expressing her continued support.

“I will always be an ally to the incredible women I’ve had the privilege of meeting in that community,” said the Better Things alum. “That has truly been one of the highlights of this whole experience for me.”

When asked about how she would spend her evening after the whirlwind of the Oscars, Madison remained grounded. “I know tonight, I’ll be going home to my new puppies, probably cleaning up after them — and that will definitely bring me back down to earth.”

The 2025 Oscars, hosted by Conan O’Brien, took place at the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood, with a star-studded red carpet entrance to mark the night’s celebrations.
